Karkhana is a Coffee Table Book illustrating the ingenious, meticulously detailed, and extremely thorough process of making the revered Ajrakh print.

The coffee table book takes you on a tour of an Ajrakh artisan's workshop (karkhana).  The craft of indigo dyeing and block printing has similarly accumulated many steps in its process, with over seventeen to twenty steps depending on the type of Ajrakh.

It is said that the patterns and motifs of Ajrakh represent the universe, the various colours standing in for the sky and earth, the twinkling stars, and the void between them. Clouds, leaves, raindrops – all the elements of our environment are reflected in a piece of Ajrakh.
